Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk may, therefore, be described as neo-Victorian. "
We are delighted at the news of another festival in Whitby, our home town.
The steampunk weekend is held 4th & 5th February at Whitby Pavilion 2017 .
Our accommodation is set in the old part of town , in a private galleried courtyard just opposite the old market place , we are hidden just off the cobbles leading up to the 199 steps to the Abbey . We are so in love with our location. Church Street is so full of mystery and the little alleyways are a jumble old roof tops, fishermens houses , old stables and delightful tiny stone cottages.
Our accommodation is set in a beautiful quiet courtyard surrounded by our galleried building. The rooms have balconies overlooking this secret garden and in its day was The Old Jet Workshops . We have also been told they used to make sails for the Victorian sailing ships .
We are a stones throw away from the beach and 10 paces away from the busy shopping street of Church Street, which is home to some beautiful jewellery shops , and boutiques. Pubs and restaurants close by and a short walk to the 199 steps to St Mary's Church and the historic Whitby Abbey .
