The History of the Shepherd's Purse

Established in 1973 by Rosie McHugh & Peter Budd.

Rosie and Pete started next door to the Board Inn on Church Street in an old fisherman’s cottage.

They made patchwork dresses in their living room for other businesses. On Good Friday 1973, they opened the door to their home to the public and completely sold out!

With this they decided to stop selling to other businesses and open their own shop. The Shepherd's Purse.

They ventured to all parts of the world such as India & Afghanistan to study fabric printing and brought home shoes from Kandahar and tribal dresses from India. They opened selling their wools and knitwear – then went on to expand into 95 Church Street to sell whole foods.

The business has been passed onto Michelle, Sophie and Kim, their three offspring, who now run The Shepherd's Purse retaining all their parents’ style & beliefs.
